Founder Lindsey Hunter’s Message to Aspiring Pros at Motor City Cruise Tryouts

At the recent Motor City Cruise tryouts, our founder Lindsey Hunter had the honor of sharing a message with players chasing their basketball dreams. Drawing from his own journey guarding some of the toughest opponents in the NBA, Lindsey reminded them that talent alone won’t set you apart — it’s your mindset, effort, and coachability that truly make the difference.
Speaking directly to the players, Lindsey offered a powerful reminder:
“The truth is, talent alone won’t get you there. What separates good from great are three things:
Mindset — believing in yourself even on the hardest days.
Effort — giving more when everyone else is ready to quit.
Coachability — being willing to listen, learn, and adjust.
These qualities don’t just make great players, they build great leaders and people.”
He encouraged every athlete to think beyond basketball — to understand that these same qualities apply in life, leadership, and community.
